About two weeks ago I showed a personal trainer this picture and said, “I wanna look like this.”
And guess what? Today I totally do!
Not really.
Here’s the deal. Over the last year or so, I’ve…uh…gotten less skinny than I’ve ever been. Like, literally, Tuesday was the least skinny I’ve ever been in my whole life. It makes me sad and angry. I have a beautiful wife and three amazing kids who deserve a husband and father who is healthy. I am determined to begin my professional speaking career sooner than later and I want to be a good example for the kids I’ll be standing in-front of. And, honestly, I’m totally cool with being “the one-handed guy;” I’m just not ok with being the overweight one-handed guy.
It’s time to get in shape.
So, I began a 24-day weight loss challenge a couple days ago. It starts with a 10-day cleanse. As I’m writing this, it’s the end of day three and I can honestly tell you, I feel so much better than I did on Monday. It’s feels amazing to get all the crap out of your system and to eat natural, healthy foods. Who knew?
Tonight was the first time I went to the gym and used machines…ever. You can see how excited I was to go:
My new friend Robert (the dude I showed the picture to – sweet shout-out on his FB page!) helped me understand the equipment and devised some great techniques for working my short arm. It was fun to see him get excited when he thought of a new idea about how to adapt a machine for me. And I have to tell you, it was SO COOL to work muscles on my left side/shoulder that I’ve never worked before. What an amazing feeling.
That said, by the time I was finished with my workout, I was dead.
It was totally worth it, though. Seriously. I’m excited to keep it going and to get healthy again.
You can expect that I’ll be posting about my progress here maybe every week or two. Here’s why:
- It holds me accountable. And trust me, I’m going to need that.
- I plan on sharing some different techniques, possibly videos, of how I’ve adapted to use the machines. Hopefully that’ll be helpful to many of you who are looking for new ways to workout.
- If I can do it, you can do it. I imagine many of you are in the same boat and hopefully my progress can motivate you to start eating healthier and working out, too!
This is going to be a long journey, but I’m ready for it. I have to be. I’m ready to “Train Like A Machine,” like Noah Galloway. I’m ready to be a beast, like Nick Newell. I’m ready to be the Guvnuh of Cal-ee-foh-nee-uh, like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ok, maybe not that last one.
Granted, it’s early, but I’m feeling good. I feel like I can do this.
I hope you’ll encourage me along the way and I’d LOVE to do the same for you.
By the way, can someone come over and stretch my legs out for me?
Thanks.
For anyone who’s curious, the products I’m using for the 24-Day challenge are through AdvoCare. Drew Brees is their national spokesman, they’ve been around for nearly 20 years and I know other people who love the products. I’m not making any money off this at this point, just wanted to let you know.
Way to go, Ryan! I’m with you in that I started taking my health seriously this year, too. I’m pretty sure we’re gonna be the most ripped dudes in WI by this time next year.
Hi Ryan,
Here some more inspiration for you.
