Listen.
I fully understand this is kind of nasty. The sound of nails being clipped is like nails on a chalkboard to me. When people do it at work (WHY??) I walk around to find the culprit and then judge them in my mind. Seriously.
That said, I’ve had numerous requests to see how I do it. And I’m nothing if I don’t do whatever anyone tells me to do.
Enjoy the video!
Flossing is next.
Don’t forget to “Like” the Facebook Page and follow on Twitter!
i walked in on tate clipping his nails in exactly this manner when he was MAYBE three years old.
now? he just bites them. *sigh* YOU GUYS!
LOL! Nice.
Yeah, turned away when the clippings started flying all over 🙂 This is one of the only things I do sans prosthesis. I take a knee, set the nail clipper on the top of my leg and press down the same way you do. I’ll have to give your way a try.
I think I used to do it that way. I can’t remember now. Again…the biting. hehe
This is hilarious and wonderful. As always, love your attitude, candor and humor. Thanks again!!
Aww, thank you, Amie! That’s so nice!
Well, self-deprecation knows no limits with you, I guess, Ryan!
My wife does mine even though I am two-handed and my toes too..
Why not try that system too?
Ha!
Very helpful. You make it look easy.
I’m glad!
My son Noah (just turned 6, same limb difference as you, Ryan) wants me to let you know that he already figured this one out. (Isn’t he smart?) Now my 8 year-old son, with two “normal” hands still can’t clip his own nails, but that’s another story. 🙂
Ha! Nice. Tell Noah he’s awesome. 🙂
Hey just wanted to tell you thanks for your website, my daughter is 4 and she “does things one handed, Bing”, she loves your videos, and my wife and I are grateful to have such a wonderful source to get pointers from. I’m sure your site will remain on our favorites list and she will grow up with you. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know, Ben. I really appreciate it. I’m glad it’s been helpful so far! Stay in touch! 🙂
I had a stroke, rendering me one handed.I built a lever to clip my nails that uses a standard clipper.Tell me where to send a picture! Share the knowledge…Dano…(When folks ask me how I’m doing,I reply,”Not half bad….”
That’s awesome, Dan! You should post it on the Facebook page! http://www.facebook.com/livingonehanded Or send it to me at ryan (at) livingonehanded (dot) com.
Why NOT half good?
Hey Ryan: I have only een one handed for one year, and I just discovered you and your site today ! It seems that you and I look at life with a smile on our face and hope in our pocket and that is a positive way to go. My wrist was broken while I was working on a dementia ward and after it healed it turned into CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). VERY painful and it has left me one haded as my left hand has about 4% function, and that is coming from my index finger that is curled into the letter ‘C’. Anyway very niceto find you and I will be back to check you out some more.
Sincerely Just Val
I use a block of wood and screw the clippers to it.
Brilliant! well done. this helped me a lot.
